AUTORITARISMO FINANCIERO BAJO DISFRAZ DE "SALVACIÓN NACIONAL"


Los rápidos acontecimientos, en Grecia e Italia son, sobre todo, la dramática confirmación de una cosa: el neoliberalismo es incompatible con la democracia.

Los predicadores del bipartdismo de la ultra-austeridad y la destrucción social tienen miedo de exponerse al veredicto popular. Es por eso que se niegan a ir a elecciones extraordinarias, primero en Grecia y ahora en Italia y, en cambio, inventan la tarea trágicamente irónico de la "salvación nacional". En el nombre de esta tarea, se han nombrado el ex vicepresidente del BCE, Lucas Papademos, como el nuevo Primer Ministro del país.

Este ilegítimo "gobierno de salvación" está pidiendo el máximo consenso posible, con el fin de que se respeten sus tareas: imponer nuevas medidas de austeridad autoritaria y brutal, reforzar los recortes sociales y aumentar las tasas de desempleo a niveles sin precedentes (18,4% en Grecia, en octubre de 2011) .

Este nuevo gobierno "partido del Memorandum" consiste en el PASOK (PES), Nueva Democracia (EPP) y el partido de extrema derecha Laos, y también es apoyado por la Alianza Democrática (ALDE) y la Federación Helénica de Empresas (SEV ). Es la primera vez después de la caída de la dictadura militar en 1974, en que cuatro representantes de la derecha populista, que a menudo han expresado abiertamente su ideales reaccionarios, xenófobos y i ultranacionalistas, se comprometen a cargos ministeriales y vice-ministeriales, bajo la aprobación de una Partido que se hace llamar a sí mismo socialista.

La formación de esta "santa alianza" en Grecia no es un incidente aislado. El Partido de la Izquierda Europea ha advertido repetidamente que Grecia ha sido el conejillo de Indias de la troika, los mercados y sus colaboradores locales, y esto incluye una experimentación continua y peligrosa en la forma de como substituir los procedimientos democráticos, el control parlamentario y público, y la norma constitucional.

Ahora están a punto de extender el experimento de "salvación nacional" al gobierno de Italia, con Mario Monti, un ex comisario, preparándose para llevar a cabo la posición del primer ministro y liderar un gobierno que estará integrado por tecnócratas y que recibirá el apoyo tanto por parte de Berlusconi como del Partido Demócrata.

Estos acontecimientos están poniendo en peligro la democracia y ponen a Europa en un período de autoritarismo sin precedentes, con derechos sociales y políticos que se reducen constantemente y son violados brutalmente.

En estos momentos cruciales, el Partido de la Izquierda Europea está firmemente en pie ("dempeus"), al lado de las fuerzas de izquierda y los movimientos sociales griegos e italianos . Hacemos una llamada a todas las fuerzas de izquierda, progresistas y democráticas en Europa, para intensificar nuestras movilizaciones comunes e iniciativas unitarias, con el fin de defender la democracia en todos los niveles, en contra de esta nueva reaccionaria "Internacional del autoritarismo financiero".

Press Release of the European Left: Financial authoritarianism under "national salvation" disguise
The rapid developments in Greece and Italy are -above all- dramatically confirming one thing: neoliberalism is incompatible with democracy.

The bipartisan preachers of ultra-austerity and social destruction are terrified of being exposed to popular verdict. That's why they refuse to go to extra-ordinary elections, first in Greece and now in Italy and, instead, invent the tragically ironic task of “national salvation”. In the name of this task, they have now appointed the ex Vice-President of the ECB, Lucas Papademos, as the new Prime Minister of the country.

This illegitimate “salvation government” is asking for the maximum possible consensus, in order to fullfil its tasks: to impose new authoritarian and brutal austerity measures, reinforce social cuts and boost unemployment rates to unprecedented levels (18.4% in Greece, in October 2011).

This new governmental “party of the Memorandum” consists of PASOK (PES), New Democracy (EPP) and the extreme-right wing party of LAOS, and is also suppported by the Democratic Alliance (ALDE) and the Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV). It is the first time after the fall of the military dictatorship in 1974, that four representatives of the populist right-wing, who have often openly expressed their reactionary, xenophobic and ultra-nationalist ideals, undertake ministerial and vice-ministerial positions, under the approval of a party calling itself a socialist one.

The formation of this “unholy alliance” in Greece is not an isolated incident. The European Left has repeatedly warned that Greece has been the guinea-pig of the troika, the markets and their local collaborators, and this includes a continuous and dangerous experimentation on how to override democratic procedures, parliamentary and public control and the constitutional rule.

They are now getting ready to extend the experiment of a “national salvation” government to Italy, with Mario Monti, an ex Commisioner, getting ready to undertake the position of the Prime Minister and lead a government which will consist of technocrats and will be supported by both Berlusconi's party and the Democratic Party.

These developments are jeopardizing democracy and put Europe into a period of unprecedented authoritarianism, with social and political rights being constantly reduced and brutally violated.

At these crucial moments, the European Left is firmly standing on the side of the Greek and the Italian Left forces and social movements. We are calling upon all left, progressive and democratic forces in Europe, to escalate our common mobilizations and unitary initiatives, in order to defend democracy at all levels, against this new reactionary “International of Financial Authoritarianism”.
